Sidney Burney entered the trade soon after WWI, dealing in Old English Furniture in Bloomsbury and later in St. James's, London. By the late 1920s Burney had moved to be a dealer in sculpture, organising an exhibition at his gallery in 1928, at which he displayed African carvings. In 1932 Burney arranged another exhibition, this time on sculpture from a wider geography and all periods, including sculpture loaned from the George Eumorfopoulos and other collectors. In 1932 Burney was elected President of the BADA.
