Sidney Edward Letts (1868-1940) trained as a cabinetmaker and operated an antique furniture business in London from the late 19th century. The business had a branch on Fifth Avenue in New York City by the early 20th century, run by Sidney's brother, Gerald. Gerald was lost in the sinking of the Lusitania on 7th May 1915, along with several other antique dealers including Edgar Gorer.
