H.C. Baxter and Sons

H.C. Baxter & Sons were established in 1927 by Horace, Claude, Montague, Victor, John Baxter (d.1970), the son of a property developer from Clapham, South London. The business was initially a partnership between Horace Baxter and his sister Maude (later Chapman), as Chapman & Baxter, before Maude established her own separate jewellery business in Knightsbridge - Chalmers & Baxter were still trading as such in the 1930s.  The antique business was continued by Horace's sons Terence (1931-2011) and Roy Baxter (d.2005), before Gary Baxter, the son of Terence Baxter, joined the firm in 1978.H.C. Baxter were well known as antique furniture dealers, and especially as a supplier of antique furniture to the London trade.
