Charles Toller begin trading as an antique dealer in partnership with the dealer John Judkyn at Shepherd Market, London, in the 1930s. In 1937 he established an antique dealer business with his wife Jane, moving to Marlow in 1938. Jane had already been trading as an antique dealer at St. Christopher's Place in London during the early 1930s. By the 1940s the business had begun to specialise in antique Treen (wooden objects).
