J.M. Cohen, trading as C. John (1899-1978) opened his first antique shop in Henley-on-Thames in 1936; in 1966 C. John received a Royal Warrant as Supplier of Carpets to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II. Leon Sassoon, the nephew of C. John, joined the firm in 1965.
