H.R. Hancock began his career in the antiques trade working in 1887 joining the antique dealers W.T. Dickinson, of Wigmore Street, London, who counted George Salting as a customer. Hancock was a specialist dealer in Chinese ceramics and was the Treasurer of the British Antique Dealers' Association during the 1930s.
