C.J. Vander were, according to their own advertisements, established in 1880 (in adverts in the 1940s), or in 1850 (in adverts in the 1930s); they were successors to the silversmith Benjamin Smith in 1802.
Arthur Vander was elected president of the BADA in 1961.
