Antique Dealers: the British Antique Trade in the 20th Century

J.M. Pontremoli

J.M. Pontremoli were leading specialist dealers in antique Oriental and English carpets and textiles.  They were established in c.1910.  Pontremoli announced his 'retirement, due to ill health' in late 1938, discounting his existing stock by sale - valued at the time at 'somewhere near £60,000.' He appears to have continued trading however and is still advertising after the end of World War II in 1946. The business continued into the 1970s.
