Fileman was established in the 1890s by Morris Fileman, an electrical engineer based in Brighton. They were initially involved in electrical engineering work, including the electrification of Brighton Pier, but by the 1920s had begun to buy and sell antique glass lightning and chandeliers, led by John Fileman; the business continues under the leadership of David Fileman.
