The writer Bevis Hillier recalled buying cracked pieces of antique ceramics from 'the London dealer, Mr Lickorish' in the 1950s and that Lickorish was known as 'the Emperor of Broken China' - 'he liked ''chips with everything' Bevis writes (Frank Partridge catalogue of English Furniture & Works of Art, 2001, p.141).
