David Lavender (1930-2018) opened his first antique business aged 20 in 1950, at a walk-in safe in the Pall Mall Safe Deposit in London. He developed a well-known business that became associated with a specialist trade in portrait miniatures and small precious objets d'art, trading in South Molton Street, Grafton Street, Conduit Street and finally in New Bond Street, all in London.
