The Kent Gallery was established in the early 20th century by Edward Horace Benjamin, who by the 1920s had entered into partnership with Lionel Harris jnr (b.1903) and Maurice Harris (b.1900), the sons of the well-known dealer Lionel Harris (1852-1943). The Kent Gallery appears to have been taken over by the Harris family by the late 1920s and the partners by the early 1930s were Lionel Harris, Maurice Harris, Lionel Harris jnr and Tomas Harris. Lionel Harris jnr left Kent Gallery by the early 1930s, setting up his own business 'Lionel Harris Jnr' at Kent House, 1b King Street, London. Tomas Harris opened 'Tomas Harris Limited', at 29 Bruton Street, London in the 1920s.
Edward Horace Benjamin was elected president of the BADA in 1930. By the 1960s the business had become 'The Kent Gallery, Rowland Spillane', with directors Rowland Spillane, J.K. King and F.B. Gill.
The Harris family also ran 'The Spanish Gallery' (by c.1907), one of several antique dealer businesses under the management of the Harris family.
The Kent Gallery were one of the major dealers in antique furniture during the early decades of the 20th century.
