Christopher Boumphrey opened an antique shop in High Street, Hailsham in 1972, after being an antique furniture valuer at the auctioneers Knight, Frank and Rutley. His shop was named Fluer-de-Lys Antiques, which he ran with his wife, the interior designers Jane Macklin-Smith; their shop was housed in the former workhouse and museum in Hailsham.
