Philips Astley-Jones (d.2021) began his life in the antique trade working for Roger Warner in Burford, Oxfordshire, before opening his own antique shop in the Old Post Office, Fossebridge, in 1972. He very shortly afterwards began working for Sotheby's, managing their new saleroom in Los Angeles, USA, before returning to the UK in the late 1970s opening an antique shop in Cambridge Street, Pimlico, London for a short time, before buying the antique restorer's Hatfields.
